Obstetrics: Supporting Your Unique Experience
Obstetrics is one of our main priorities. We accompany our patients throughout their pregnancy, at the moment of birth, and during the postpartum period. We are always available to address any questions that may arise during this time.
Our midwives, certified breastfeeding consultants, also offer home visits after delivery to ensure continuous support.
For us, the birth of a child is a unique moment in the life of a woman and her partner, and it should be experienced and respected as such by both the midwife and the obstetrician.
We believe that childbirth is a natural process. In a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy with a healthy baby, the body forms a system that works on its own and should not be unnecessarily disturbed.
Following the principle of “less is more”, our role is to accompany and monitor the mother, intervening only when necessary. The less we interfere with a system that works naturally, the smoother and more balanced the process will be.
That is why we avoid routine interventions and make decisions together with the woman giving birth. Unless there is a medical indication or an explicit request from the patient:
- We do not perform enemas at the start of labor
- We do not shave pubic hair
- We do not perform routine episiotomies
- In addition to epidural analgesia, we offer nitrous oxide (Entonox) for pain relief during labor.
At HM Nuevo Belén Hospital, we have three modern delivery rooms (built in 2013), each equipped with a birthing pool, providing a safe, intimate, and calm environment.
If at any time medical intervention is required, we have all the necessary resources and staff available: pediatricians, anesthesiologists, a neonatal intensive care unit, and the option to perform a cesarean section at any time.
