Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy: Comprehensive, Individualized Care for Core Female and Male Health
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy consists of preventing, treating, and re-educating the various conditions that can affect the functions of the pelvic floor. The functions of the pelvic floor include visceral support, continence, childbirth, sexual function, urination and defecation, postural support and pressure absorption.
In many cases, there is no sudden onset of symptoms, but rather a subtle worsening. That’s why the area should be checked at the slightest sign of change or deterioration. When it comes to the female pelvic floor, it’s important to remember that constipation, pregnancy, and childbirth are additional risk factors. In men, special attention should be paid to athletes who practice high-impact or hyperpressive sports (such as weightlifting, CrossFit, or cycling), which can put added stress on the pelvic area.
Several therapeutic approaches can be used in treatment, such as increasing awareness and perception of the pelvic floor, muscle strengthening exercises, manual therapy, posture correction, and breathing techniques. Various devices are commonly used in both diagnosis and treatment, such as ultrasound and radiofrequency.
The process begins with a health questionnaire, followed by a comprehensive assessment of the pelvic floor, abdominal wall, breathing patterns, and posture.
Once all data has been collected, an individualized treatment plan is developed with clear, personalized objectives for each patient.
